How people are using Boomy to empower their creativity
Can I use my Boomy song in a video, podcast, classroom, etc.?
We recently introduced new memberships tiers which automatically include licenses for several use cases attached to metered downloads of WAV and MP3 files. To keep things simple, your membership level determines the license that’s applied to any of your downloads, and your license is valid even after your membership ends. We’ve also added monthly billing options and simple new processes to streamline your account management.
At this time, a “Pro” membership does not guarantee that a song will be published across all streaming platforms with whom we partner, as all releases are subject to Boomy’s review process. Looking ahead, we expect that creators will have access to a wider variety of platforms.
Does Boomy pay its creators?
Yes! As streams accumulate on releases, Boomy collects the associated revenue and credits your share (80%, net of fees) to your Boomy account. Once you’ve earned $5 or more, you can withdraw the funds using PayPal.
Does Boomy use any copyrighted IP in its process? Does it have plans to use copyrighted music to train its AI music generation tools?
Boomy does not train its machine learning models on any copyrighted songs and has never ingested any such data that may be subject to copyright in its models.
We are always evaluating opportunities to enhance our service. Should we choose to train our models using copyrighted material, we would only do so with explicit permission from rightsholders.
How does Boomy envision the future of AI generative music and its place in the music industry? Are there plans to move beyond just music?
We aim to represent a new creative class of technology-enabled musicians and create an on-ramp for musical expression that increases overall interest in the music industry as we grow as a label and publisher.
We believe that generative music inevitably will involve the use of rightsholder content, and we see ourselves as a bridge between the emerging AI-enabled creative class and rightsholders. Rather than “replace” musicians, we hope to help create new value for rightsholders as we support this new musical creative class.
Looking ahead, we plan to stick to music creation, and are actively working on delivering new genres and expanded music development features for our creators.
How does Boomy or its distributor work to fight bad actors and prevent streaming manipulation?
We are categorically against any form of artificial streaming. Boomy has built a robust delivery, royalty review, and user management system that allows us to effectively respond to digital service providers’ (DSPs) notices of manipulation activity. For example, if a DSP flags a song’s Universal Product Code, a.k.a. its ‘musical barcode’, for artificial streaming, Boomy maintains the ability to freeze payments, block users, and prevent access to the Boomy platform across devices. Boomy is also working with leading anti-streaming-fraud providers to provide an AI solution to the issue of streaming manipulation.
How does Boomy use AI?
Our main priority is to equip our creators from all over the world with the tools to create original music at the click of a button, even if they lack expensive tools or a formal music-making education.
Boomy uses AI and music automation systems to generate and personalize songs at our user’s direction. Specifically, Boomy uses a statistics-based approach to generate a starting point for your song’s composition and production, which can then be further customized using our accessible editing tools.
Importantly, our music generation processes are developed in the musical tradition of pioneering generative artists. To date, we have not released or commercialized models that use third-party IP subject to copyright.
Is Boomy compliant with copyright laws? How so?
Yes. Since the works and recordings created using Boomy are fundamentally created by you, a human being, in partnership with the Boomy team, the music created with Boomy should enjoy the same copyright protection as any other human-created song.
What is Boomy and how does it work?
Founded in 2019, Boomy enables anyone to create and publish original songs using our proprietary generative music technology. Whether you’re a first-time music maker with no prior musical experience or an aspiring artist looking to get started, Boomy’s simple interface enables you to craft and personalize authentic music and share it with the world. After creating a song and customizing it with Boomy’s editing tools, you can submit it for review. If approved, we’ll publish it to some of the world’s most popular music streaming platforms through Boomy’s record label, where it can earn revenue as people stream it.
What is Boomy’s content moderation policy? How does Boomy monitor offensive, explicit or illegal content created through its AI technology?
Once a song is finalized and submitted for review, our team utilizes a combination of robust automated and human review processes to filter our offensive, explicit, or generic content. We do not stand for hate speech of any kind, content that promotes illegal activity, or infringes on the legal rights of others. We will move quickly to act on content flagged in our review process.
Furthermore, given the ease with which a malicious actor could rip an offensive song from our platform, it is critical we retain our ability to police usage of our rights via DMCA. This is one of the main reasons why we advocate for the copyrightability of our works and recordings.
Who can use Boomy?
Anyone can sign up for Boomy and use it on any device, in supported territories worldwide.
